Meteorites and the relationship between humans and poison arrive at the House of Sciences this fall

This Wednesday the autumn programming of the House of Sciences was presented, which will take place between October and the first half of December with different activities, such as three new exhibitions dedicated to space and poison, conferences or workshops on Saturdays for a family audience , as reported by the Councilor for City Promotion, Miguel Sainz, and the director of the center, Dolores Fernández.

“One of the new features this quarter is the exhibition ‘Meteorites: Destroyers of worlds or creators of life?’, from October 10 to January 26 in room 1. It is an exhibition from the Aragon Planetarium through which “They can discover the secrets of meteorites,” explained the councilor. The exhibition is accompanied by an interesting conference with free admission, scheduled for Wednesday, October 9, titled ‘Meteorite Hunters’ by José Vicente Casado, scientific disseminator and meteorite expert.

On the other hand, the program includes another exhibition called ‘Our solar system’, which will occupy room 2 of the center starting November 21, “an excellent exhibition produced by the House of Sciences with images from NASA and its own interactive content. and that will offer spectacular images of some of the worlds of the solar system reproduced in large format,” said Sainz, who wanted to highlight “the excellent work, effort and care developed by the House of Sciences team, with its director at the helm, to bring science closer to all ages in an attractive way.”

The third exhibition, “which will be the largest format exhibition of the autumn winter,” Sainz pointed out, “aims to delve deeper into the relationships between humans and poison throughout history, in mythology, art, culture popular and in science.” It will occupy rooms 3 and 4 of the center from November 26 to March 23, under the title ‘Poison that heals, poison that kills’ and includes more than 400 pieces and an audiovisual projection.

To these exhibitions are added others that are currently in the House of Sciences such as ‘Our rivers are… life’, until November 10, of own production, dedicated to water and the Ebro River in more than 500 square meters.

World Space Week

From October 4 to 10, “we will have World Space Week, to which the House joins, one more year, with different activities for children, family audiences and adults,” indicated the mayor. Specifically, various workshops and storytellers have been scheduled for October 5, with the workshops ‘Astronomy for all’, ‘Luna lunera’ and the storyteller ‘A mouse on the moon’, and on October 6th the workshop ‘Deslumbrante’ to learn to observe the sky, the stars and constellations.

On the other hand, Sainz explained “as of November 12, Science Week will begin, with a conference that will be opened by Encarnación Núñez, Professor at the UR, with her research in Antarctica on the effects of ultraviolet-B radiation on the floors”. Throughout that week, interesting scientific topics will be addressed in a playful way, through sounds, games, songs and stories.

Conference series organized by CSIC

Once again this year, the Higher Council for Scientific Research presents its series of conferences ‘What do we know about…?’ at the House of Sciences, which includes four conferences for November and December. These talks will address topics such as ‘Chemical pollution of plastics’, ‘Hallucinogens’, ‘Our immune system’ or ‘The mathematics of the solar system’.

In addition to all the aforementioned proposals, the House of Sciences will host different free workshops every Saturday, from October 19 to December 14, with 24 places per workshop, for children. In them the little ones will be able to learn about aspects such as ‘The life of the Ebro’, ‘The inhabitants of the soil’, ‘Shapes and colors’, ‘Amazing experiments’, ‘Counting and measuring’, ‘From the flower to the fruit’, ‘ Touch, feel, think’, ‘We explore Mars’, ‘Solar system’, ‘Clouds in the sky’, ‘The seasons’, ‘Astronomy for everyone’ and ‘Saurius Workshop’.

Registration for workshops and activities can be done at www.inscriptionscasadelasciencias.es.

The councilor has highlighted the role of the House of Sciences in our city, as “an excellent meeting and cultural place for the enjoyment of the residents of Logroño, but also for those who visit us from other towns.” In addition to its unbeatable location, Sáinz pointed out, “this quarter’s programming includes a wide variety of activities for all ages, ranging from workshops for the little ones to informative conferences given by scientists and large exhibitions of different kinds.”

In Sainz’s opinion, “autumn is a good time to get closer to science, culture, knowledge and the House of Sciences is a place that always surprises, where we can learn and experiment.”
