The City Council and the municipal Mental Health Technical Board remember the importance of the work for comprehensive normalization

The Almería City Council, through the Family, Inclusion and Equality Area, and the municipal Mental Health Technical Board that it coordinates, have read a manifesto today on the occasion of the commemoration of Mental Health Day, one of the most notable events of the fortnight of activities programmed by the different associations that make up the Table and that take place from this week until mid-November.

With the motto of “Work and Mental Health, a fundamental link”, the reading of the manifesto took place at the Bola Azul Peripheral Specialty Center and was chaired by the delegate councilor of the Active City, Urban Mobility and Sports Area, Antonio J. Casimiro, accompanied by all the associations and entities of the table.

Casimiro has pointed out that “it is the most important part to take care of in this stressful society, we have to slow down and become aware. I think the growth data in mental health problems among young people is also worrying. Rates of suicide, depression, anxiety. And I think it all comes from a lack of emotional education since childhood. We have the obligation to educate children to know how to tolerate frustration, in effort and perseverance and not so much in the product, in the academic result or in the comparison with others. It is necessary to promote this psychophysical balance and the development of emotional health in childhood.”

With the manifesto, we wanted to draw attention to a fundamental issue: the right to decent work, and the right for the working day to be a pleasant, positive, enriching experience.

We always say that a recovery process culminates when the person plays a social role, one of the most satisfying roles being professional activity. This is because a well-paid job provides us with an independent life project, while responsibility determines the nature of our mental experience and helps us overcome limitations that, many times, are only self-perceived. With a job we achieve autonomy, we discover our potential, and we manage to feel useful,” details a fragment of the text of the manifesto, read by members of some of the participating associations.

They also remember that “sincerity must govern work relationships, and no one should feel like a stranger when it comes to making a mental health problem visible, something completely natural.”

Among its demands, the manifesto claims: strengthening psychosocial risk prevention teams and raising awareness among public and private companies; a work culture that promotes psychosocial factors that promote mental health; aspiring to job offers with greater added value, and not only in mechanical and repetitive jobs.

In this sense, he adds “we align ourselves with Sustainable Development Goal No. 8 on “Decent work and economic growth” and we urge the business community, and the State, to generate opportunities in access to ordinary employment, and to make prospecting, alliances , and creative policies that encourage socio-labor insertion itineraries.”
